Quan­tic, он же Уилл Холланд — британс­кий му­льтинструме­нталист, ди­джей и про­дю­сер, тво­рчест­во ко­то­рого охва­ты­вает целый спектр жа­нров от джаза, соула, хип-хопа и ре­ггей до элект­ро­нной му­зы­ки. Quan­tic вдох­нов­ля­ется му­зы­кой Латинс­кой Аме­ри­ки, Африки, стран Карибс­кого бас­сей­на, и это, безус­лов­но, обогащает его соб­ствен­ное тво­рчест­во. Работая бо­льшую часть вре­ме­ни в своей студии Soni­do del Valle (Колу­мбия), Холланд во­зводит мо­сты ме­жду му­зы­каль­ными тра­ди­циями и прог­рес­сом и изо­бретает такое зву­ча­ние, в ко­то­ром по­трясающим образом пере­плетается му­зы­ка ра­зных стран и ко­нтине­нтов.

Тво­рчест­во Quan­tic'а столь же многог­ран­но, как и его ли­чность. В ра­зное время он выпу­скал альбомы в ра­мках таких проек­тов, как The Quan­tic Soul Orchest­ra, the Combo Barbaro, Quan­tic & Alice Russell, Flo­we­ring Infe­rno and Onda­tro­pi­ca (Sound­way).
И вот, на­ко­нец, в 2014-м вы­шла «Magne­ti­ca» — плас­тин­ка под его гла­вным и ос­нов­ным твор­чес­ким псе­вдо­ни­мом.
Как пи­са­ла га­зе­та «The Guar­di­an», на «Magne­ti­ca», на­ко­нец, обна­ру­живается возв­ращение ар­тис­та к его элек­трон­ным ко­рням.
Большую часть пос­лед­них семи лет он провёл в Колу­мбии, что дало ему воз­мож­ность посот­руд­ничать со мно­ги­ми талант­ли­вы­ми му­зы­ка­нтами стран Латинс­кой Аме­ри­ки и Карибс­кого бас­сей­на. Таким образом, на «Magne­ti­ca» зву­ча­ние Quan­tic ста­но­ви­тся еще шире и бо­га­че, эта плас­тин­ка во­брала в себя му­зы­ки, стили и языки Велико­бри­та­нии, Эфиопии, Ямайки, Бра­зи­лии, Анголы.
20 мая со­сто­ится пе­рвое живое выс­туп­ление Quan­tic в России. Британс­кий артист едет в сто­ли­цу в ра­мках бо­льшого ми­ро­вого тура и предс­тавит на сцене клуба «16 тонн» свой новый альбом «Magne­ti­ca».

Eddie Shinn - The Sketches of Scratches | Albums

A label many downtempo fans are familiar with, Cold Busted is back with a new album, using their standing to release music from a mysterious artist from a distant locale. The Sketches Of Scratches album is the second release on the label for Eddie Shinn, a 20 year old artist from Ulyanovsk, Russia. That’s about all the information available on the young producer and that’s okay because the music can speak for itself. The mantra for this release is dusty downtempo cuts with so much soul and melodic application of the ‘scratches’ hinted at in the title.

The album contains many highlights. Classy pianos, keys, and brass with plenty of drum rolls, make the breezy “Disco Stu” a great sign of what’s to come. A sort of funk fusion, “Far and Away” is much more cut up with bursts of beat repeats and some great use of samples and sound effects. “Dead Night" features a lazy, low-down disco vibe with stuttering vocal bits. Coming through with an infectious breakbeat and party ready cheers, “Look Like” could beckon even the most discerning dancers to get up and get down. “Work All Night And All Day” and “Next Point” both use horns to differing effect, while at the same time continuing to carry the tone of the album. Eddie Shinn’s The Sketches Of Scratches puts Ulyanovsk solidly on the Cold Busted map, seducing global headz with its infectious ‘Volga beats.’

Lo Creed - Hope | Albums

We reach into Athens, Greece to expose the funky sound of Apollo Neopoulos, also known as Lo Creed. He debuts his style of ‘Mediterranean hop’ on the eleven track album titled Hope, showcasing funky flavorings, punchy beats, and gritty instrumentation. Highlights include the late night strut of “Stay United,” the sensual bedtime funk of “Remind,” “Join The L.U.V. Club” with its lush strings and piano over crisp drums, and the album’s title track with its appealing bounce and layers of sampled freshness. It will quickly become evident that Lo Creed’s Hope is indeed ‘dope’ … grab hold and get down.

Nightmares On Wax man George Evelyn has been part of the Warp roster since the beginning, first drifting through bleep house with ‘Dextrous’ and ‘Aftermath’ before settling on the hazy, bass-heavy funk of Carboot Soul and Smokers Delight. Now he’s back after a five-year hiatus with Feelin’ Good, which is described as a blend of funk, soul and house.
Collaborating with Jazzanova arranger Sebastian Studnitzky, Evelyn has injected his new full-length with rich orchestration and strings, giving it the sunny, widescreen feel he’s always wanted. He explains, ”It was always a natural dream to make music in the sun like I do now. Not to take away from any of my previous music but Feelin’ Good is what I’ve always been trying to do.”
The first taster of the record is the bouncy ‘Now is the Time’, that sounds like a bizarre collision of Northern Soul, dub and early house – job done, then. Take a listen below.
